Receipt OCR API FAQs
Taggun combines OCR with AI and machine-learning models to turn receipts and invoices into structured data, including totals, tax, dates, merchant details, line items, and confidence scores.
Your API key is generated automatically after registration and emailed to you, typically instantly and occasionally within a few minutes. You can also find it in your account dashboard.
Taggun processes millions of scans per month at 90%+ accuracy. Results vary by document type, country, merchant, and image quality, so we recommend testing with your own receipts. Performance tuning for specific document types is available on Advanced and Enterprise plans.
Taggun’s documented processing operations are synchronous: each endpoint returns its endpoint-specific result in the same HTTP response, with no webhook or job polling. JSON operations have different response shapes; published export operations return CSV downloads.
Standard receipts usually complete in a few seconds. Large files, long receipts, line-item extraction, and fraud checks can take longer; very long receipts may take 20-30 seconds.
One submitted file equals one scan and one API request. Processed requests count as scans, including receipts that fail validation or are flagged by fraud checks; requests that fail before processing are not counted. Each plan includes a monthly scan allowance, with per-scan overage shown in the plan comparison above. Contact sales to find the best fit for your volume.
Taggun processes receipts and invoices from every country and reads 205 languages. Core extraction works worldwide, while country-specific fields and regional optimisations vary. Yes. Advanced and Enterprise plans include duplicate and similarity detection, digital tampering detection, handwriting detection, and digital receipt detection. Fraud controls that are present for the account can be enabled in Feature Settings; some capabilities may require account configuration or support.
Yes. Taggun can run behind your own brand, and our standard licence supports use across multiple clients under one account. Use subAccountId to attribute usage to clients or other subdivisions for reporting; all usage remains under the main Taggun account, and it does not create a separate subscription or billing account. For enterprise white-labelling or more complex sub-account structures, contact us.

Integration support varies by plan. Business plans and above include support through email, Slack, and Zoom. Enterprise plans add dedicated support and customisable SLAs. Developer documentation and self-guided onboarding are available on every plan.
Data security and privacy compliance are core priorities for us.
Data processing, storage & retention
- By default, Taggun stores submitted receipt and invoice files and their extracted result data for up to three years. These records may contain personal information when identifying details appear on the submitted document or in the extracted data.
- Set
incognito: trueon an extraction or validation request to prevent the submitted document and extracted result data from being stored. The document is still processed to return the API response. - Minimal request metadata, such as tracking and account tags, may still be retained for security and monitoring. This does not include the submitted document or extracted result data.
- Data is encrypted in transit using TLS and at rest using AES-256.
Compliance & infrastructure
- Taggun holds SOC 2 Type 2 certification. Reports, policies, and sub-processor information are available through our Trust Center.
- We are GDPR compliant and honour applicable data-subject rights, including access and erasure.
- Taggun infrastructure is hosted on AWS. Current assurance material is available through our Trust Center. Enterprise customers can contact us to discuss the hosting, data-residency, retention, and privacy options currently available as contractual arrangements.

Developer, Startup, Business, and Advanced plans include a 30-day free trial with up to 1,000 scans and access to the features included in the selected plan. Controls that are present for the account can be enabled in Feature Settings. Some account capabilities may require account configuration or support; QR Code Extraction is not a normal Feature Settings registry control.
Use the API playground to test your own receipts and review the endpoint-specific verbose extraction response for the features available on that account. Unless you cancel during the trial, your account continues on the selected plan and billing begins at its standard monthly rate.
You can cancel at any time in your account dashboard. Cancelling prevents the next subscription renewal.
We do not offer traditional on-premises installations. Taggun infrastructure is hosted on AWS, and current assurance material is available through our Trust Center. Enterprise customers can contact us to discuss dedicated or managed hosting and data-residency options as contractual arrangements.
